Business Software & Integration
Software consulting and technical audit
Engineering advice that asks the right questions before you buy software, compares the proposals you receive and reviews existing systems independently.
The problem
Software projects are often lost before a single line of code is written: the need was never written down clearly, the three proposals received are too different to compare, and on delivery day it turns out this isn't what was expected. For a manager without a technical background, questions like is this proposal reasonable, is this system secure, could someone else take over this code have no answers.
What we do
We work as an engineer sitting on your side of the table. We turn the need into a written scope and technical specification based on your business processes, and make incoming proposals comparable against the same criteria. We review existing systems for code quality, security, performance, backups and maintainability, and report findings in order of importance. Independence is the core of this work: if we might bid on the same project, we say so upfront.
How we work
Discovery call
We listen to your business, your goals and where things stand today, and gather what we need for a quote.
Written quote
We put the scope, timeline and price in writing. If something out of scope comes up, we talk first.
Build
We show progress at short intervals and move ahead with your approval at every step.
Measure and support
After launch we measure the results, report on them and keep improving.
Frequently asked questions
Will you review software built by another company?
Yes, that's a large part of this service. We need access to the source code and servers; we write findings without blaming anyone, with technical reasoning and a severity for each.
Do we then have to hire you to build the software?
No. What the consulting produces is yours and can be used with any company. If bidding on the project comes up, we say so openly from the start; the decision is entirely yours.
Do you do penetration testing?
No. Our review covers code, configuration and common vulnerabilities. Full penetration testing requires separate expertise and authorisation; when it's needed, we recommend working with a firm that specialises in it.
